In the fast-paced world we live in, we must be intentional about what we wish to create, including conception. We can’t deny that we live in a time where there is information overload that can set unrealistic expectations for our conception journey. Consciously choosing what to absorb and believe in is crucial for maintaining a positive conception mindset, along with setting clear intentions, establishing boundaries, making time for self-care, and managing stress.
Set A Clear Intention
Take the time to get clear on what you want. If you have a partner, involve them in this process. Create a statement such as, “I/we intend to conceive a healthy baby and I/we are committed to creating a nurturing environment to make this happen.” This statement sets a clear tone for your journey and guides you in that direction. It is essential to wholeheartedly believe in the statement you come up with. If you have any doubts about the possibility of conceiving a healthy baby, work through any limiting beliefs or past experiences that are leading you to believe this. I can’t emphasize how much our beliefs and experiences impact our outcomes, so it’s key to address anything in your way. Once your statement is clearly defined and you trust it wholeheartedly, write it down and take a moment daily to visualize your intention coming to fruition.
Set Clear Boundaries
Establishing clear boundaries in all areas of your life helps you protect your well-being, decrease stress, and maintain a positive mindset during your conception journey. Time boundaries allow you to prioritize rest and self-care, as well as manage any additional social commitments and/or work-related commitments. Emotional boundaries allow you to protect who you’re going to share your journey with and protect your energy from unsolicited advice or negative comments. Professional boundaries allow you to create a work-life balance so that work stress doesn’t interfere with your efforts. Take the time to clearly identify the boundaries you want to set and with whom. Once you begin to set clear boundaries, you’ll notice that you’re using the word, “No” more often, which will be uncomfortable, but worth it. Another thing to be aware of as you set clear boundaries is that you’ll get pushback from people, but regardless of this, it’s important to remember to stay true to your needs, wants, and desires.
Time For Self-Care
Many women find it challenging to make time for self-care due to busy schedules even though it’s crucial for the conception journey. Revisit your intentions and boundaries so that you can say “No” to things that do not align with you will help you make room for self-care. Self-care encompasses a variety of activities such as getting proper nutrients, exercising, spending time in nature, sleeping, and using relaxation techniques such as mindfulness, and meditation. The opportunities for self-care are endless and much needed for the conception journey.
Stress Management
According to research, stress impacts fertility outcomes, so it’s important to manage stress effectively. Understanding the sources of your stress makes it easier to make necessary lifestyle changes and seek the right support for your journey. A few powerful tools that can help you manage stress right away are journaling, mindfulness, and meditation. Journaling provides a safe space to express feelings, reflect on experiences, and process your thoughts in an instant. Mindfulness is about being fully in the present moment observing your thoughts, feelings, and sensations non-judgmentally. There are a variety of mindfulness techniques you can practice such as mindfulness meditation, walking, eating, breathing, and body scans. Meditation involves focusing your mind, and there are a variety of meditations you can do such as mindfulness meditation, loving-kindness meditation, and guided meditation. It’s important to find and stick to a technique that works for you, so that you can see the benefits it brings with time.
Find your tribe
As you prepare for or embark on your conception journey, it’s crucial to surround yourself with supportive, non-judgmental people and helpful information. Information overload from friends, family, and social media can negatively impact your mental health. If you feel that your mental health is being affected, unsubscribe from online content that does not serve you, and limit who you share your journey with and seek advice from. The most important thing to remember is that every woman’s path to conceiving is different. Stay focused on your journey, take care of yourself, and seek the resources and support tailored to your specific needs.
